Freshers Trip 2 Mendips trip 4th-6th November. Usual mix of bonfires, halloween and cross dressing.

CHECC (YSS) 25th-27th November. 120 go mad in Yorkshire.

In addition, Charlotte is canvassing people for a possible trip to SWCC on the weekend of 30th-31st July.

On an unrelated note why didn’t we think of this?

End of Year Bash

CadburyTo round of the year yesterday we went to Cadbury’s World and spent the junkyard sale proceeds. A few photos are here. Thanks to John K for driving/organising and Charlotte for the idea.

There’s also a few photos taken by John W here – includes the last Wales and Yorkshire weekends and CHECC. The climatic moments of last year’s CHECC Beer Pong are here.

If anyone has any particularly good photos from the past year could you please let me have them as things are about to be sorted out for next year.

On a separate note, if anyone is still around bear in mind that the rather good  WOMAD  festival is on in Reading this summer. There are plans to go on Friday 29 July (me, John/Lisa/Anna, Andy/Esther). Tickets are discounted from £30 to £11.50 with a Passport to Leisure.

Finally, have a good summer. It’s been a good year…

South Wales June 2005

CharlotteThis weekend RUCC went to South Wales and

– did inappropriate things with Dudley’s shop dummy;
– found a new use for a teapot;
– and staged an important historical re-enactment.

They also did some caving. Photos are available here.

In other news we have finally decided on a design for new club hoodies! Yes, the ru cavers 2? front and 50 reasons back has received the executive nod. We will initially be printing up 10 (I repeat, 10) only so the first people to press cash into my hand (£20 ish) will be the first ones to sport the new designs and have the best chance of being  demonised by the Daily Mail.

Finally, please remember that there is a Sweeneys trip tomorrow (8.30p.m.) hence no pub as normal. And Thursday is free chocolate and beer day.  Deep joy.

And Finally For This Year…

BunnyIMPORTANT NEWS

You may recall that for some time we have been running a ‘Great RUCC Junkyard Sale’, and we promised you a top nite out in a top Reading nitespot on the proceeds. This sale is now officially closed.  Proceeds from the sale (made up of sales of assorted rubbish, books and quiz winnings) have way exceeded all expectations and can be inspected using the online crapometer.

As proceeds are more than we thought we have now have a budget to blow. We have taken advice from our Secretary (over a drink) and we have been persuaded (over another drink) that a trip to Cadbury’s World may be in order, followed by a trip to a top Reading nitespot as planned.

We are suggesting that THURSDAY 30TH JUNE (not Wednesday 29th June as previously advertised) may be a good day to go. You?  We need to organise transport and so on and it will therefore be first come first served. Hence please let John K or me know or tell us in the pub next Monday. As this will likely be the end event of a very lively year attendance is of course compulsory.

Also – please remember that the next and final trip in Wales, weekend after next.  Please contact Charlotte or arrive at the pub to book.

We Are 37….

RuccsmHenrysuitBlimey. Just found this.

Firstly I’m reasonably confident that the wetsuit modelled third from left is still with us and was recently experimented with by former president Henry, as shown. Unfortunately whilst most of him went in the odd dangly bit didn’t.

Secondly you will of course note that the 1970 photo was taken outside SWCC, which eerily enough is where we are going this  weekend. Hang on, I can feel a historical re-enactment coming on…..

And come to think of it that rope looks awfully familiar.

Weekend Photos & More

MapThis weekend the caving club:

– Formed an Underground Duck Rescue Team and retrieved a distressed duck from the bottom of Jingling Pot

– Sent an RUCC Envoy to the 25th Austwick Cuckoo Festival. Our thanks go to Henry for representing the club at this important international event.

– Er, went to Blackpool and walked about a bit.

Photos of Jingling and the (un)fortuntate bird are here.

On a separate note I’ve had a brilliant idea for how we pull in more Freshers next year. It simply involves a quick rebranding of the club along these lines. Can’t fail. Also someone needs to make an executive decision on shirt designs…

Ideas Just In…

Rucavers2

Following a recent minibus summit and some serious strokey beard action we are now able to present the latest potential hooded top designs here. If there’s anything you particularly like, or have another idea/reason not to go caving please leave a comment on this site. Alternatively please join in the heated debate in the pub (which I’m not at tomorrow).

Perverted Filth. And Caving.

Head2Just found this on the internet. I’m shocked and appalled…

On a separate please note that the South Wales trip (17th-19th June) has been changed to 24th-26th June as it clashes with the summer ball. The next trip is Yorkshire 27th-30th May (Bank Holiday!) Let Charlotte know if you want to come on either of the trips. In the meantime, best of luck to anyone grappling with exams.
